Hurst Hatch Service Information

The Hurst Hatch service manual sells for a measly $6 including shipping, and has 22 pages and over 60 illustrations. This manual was printed in 1977 and covers installation, adjustment, and repairs. Naturally, it deals heavily with water leak problems and weatherstrip adjustments, but it has explosion drawings and covers all the parts of the t-tops too. It hurts to look at that parts list and know that you can't buy any new parts.

The manual covers all the 75, 76 and 77 Hurst T-tops, including the 2nd design G-body (Grand Prix) t-top, but not the 2nd design Trans Am t-top which hadn't come out yet (see the recall manual below). Even if you have the 2nd design Trans Am weatherstripping I think this manual is still helpful for troubleshooting because of the similarity to the other 3 types. The Illustrations are all Grand Prix. These have typical service manual lithographs that are very hard to copy, but they turned out really well. I have included a sample page to give you an idea of what they are going to look like.

We are making copies of this manual available because anyone restoring a car with Hurst T-tops would benefit from this information, and in fact this could help a few more of those cool Hurst-equipped cars survive. Hurst t-top problems threaten our favorite late 70's GM cars, such as the 1975 Hurst Olds, 1976 50th Anniversary Pontiacs, 1976 Indy pace car, and 1977 and 1978 Bandit Trans Ams.

The old Hurst T-tops were not all that well made when they were new, and it's hard to get them to act right. There was undoubtedly a lot of hand-fitting that was required to get them to work, and (according to the manual) there are several places where they have to have a dab of sealant or a drop of glue. Hurst and GM give a long list of recommended materials and procedures to make the t-tops look and perform correctly. There's a lot of stuff in here that you would not think of on your own. So, before you spend hundreds on new weatherstripping you might want to lay out $6 to see where they're supposed to be glued, and with what.

Hurst Hatch Repair Kit Installation Procedure

I recently stumbled across this on ebay, and it's the only one I've ever seen. This manual gives step by step instructions for installing the recall kits into A, G, and F-bodies of any year. These kits required replacing the entire roof surround frame and installing new weatherstripping.

If you're lucky enough to find a recall kit now (they're out there), this is the perfect companion. Or, if you already have 2nd design (recalled) t-top frames, this manual covers weatherstrip installation and some adjustments on your car. This manual has 30 pages and is even better illustrated than the service manual above. However, it doesn't cover troubleshooting and leaks at all.

To purchase a copy, send $6 paypal to joe@firebirdtransamparts.com or email joe@firebirdtransamparts.com for other payment instructions.

Be sure to tell me which manual you want if you send $6. If you want both manuals, you can send $10.
